Arizona Redistricting, Broadband Action Teams in Az and GAD Events

Arizona’s redistricting for Legislative and Congressional voting districts began earlier this year with the appointment of a 5 person independent commission, the IRC. The Commission was tasked with starting from scratch to draw all new districts, not re-draw existing districts.

Now, that commission has released the first grid maps for consideration and comment by the public. The next public meeting will be in Surprise on Oct. 7th at 4pm at the Vista Center of the Arts on Parkview Place.

The grid maps are starting points for the discussion before draft maps are created. You can watch past IRC meetings at the Arizona Redistricting Commission website and access more information so that you can provide valuable input to the commission.

Super Fund Sites:
The Arizona Dept. of Environmental Quality has created several interactive maps to help property owners, buyers and the public locate these sites.

You can go to www.weservgad.org to read the blogpost “Disclosing Superfund, WQARF and DOD sites – Maps to help your client”. I have provided a direct link into the map.

WeSERV hosted the initial meetings of the Cochise and Santa Cruz Broadband Action Team meetings in September. You can read more detailed information on these two meetings at www.weservgad.org. Click on “Local News”.

WeSERV GAD Events:
Our next event is an in-person Candidate Training on October 20th from 9am to 5pm at ASU Skysong in Scottsdale. Not only will attendees learn the nuts and bolts of campaign budgeting, the law and how to organize a campaign, but they will also be hearing from a panel of former elected officials who ran for office and won. What do they wish they had known? The cost is $40 per person for this full day event.

Coming on November 3rd at our West Valley office in Peoria is our Fair Housing, ADA and Disparate Impact event. We will have two panels including attorneys, HUD and housing organizations to discuss Fair Housing and ADA changes under Covid-19, HUD’s recent information and policy releases, and Disparate Impact – what is it and how do you make sure your business doesn’t get accused of violating Disparate Impact standards?

We will also be hosting an expo with exhibitors from the housing and regulatory industry. Registration will be opening soon for this free event on November 3rd from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.

Last up – watch the WeSERV Newsletters as we begin our City bus tours of selected cities. Not only will we tour cities with representatives from their economic development departments to see what’s new and what’s coming, but we will also take the time to sit and chat with city representatives about the real estate market, issues of interest to WeSERV members and their clients and get information from city staff. Watch for these bus tours as seats are limited.
