Candidate Interviews in Sierra Vista and Peoria, the Arizona REALTORS® Caucus, and upcoming GAD Events

WeSERV is still interviewing candidates running for local office. Last week our Cochise Chapter interviewed candidates running for city council and mayor of Sierra Vista. This week our West Valley Chapter will be interviewing candidates running for Peoria city council in the Mesquite district. Candidate Endorsement List.

On August 31st, the Arizona REALTORS hosted our annual Legislative Caucus. The Caucus is held each year so that members from around the state can join together to listen to the state legislative update for the immediate past session and discuss issues the Government Affairs Director, Matthew Contorelli, might be able to address legislatively at the state level next legislative session. WeSERV’s list of concerns and suggestions:

  • The new Homestead Act Changes including Title company liability, discharged bankruptcy issues, and mortgage line priority.
The new wholesale buyer/wholesale seller law obscures and potentially makes the use of contract assignment difficult.
  • Property Lien Recordings: Frequently property owners do not realize a lien has been placed on their property.
  • Definition of Institutional Buyer: Current definitions include individual and small investors potentially damaging their ability to aid in housing solutions.
  • Preference of Institutional buyers, governments and 501c3s to purchase homes instead of owner occupant buyers.
  • Definition of Abandoned: Codify in state law the definition of abandoned as currently commonly understood. Increasingly local government is adopting the definition of paying property tax in arrears or notice of loan default.

Things to Know:

  • WeSERV has created the City of Maricopa Sign Ordinance Task Force.
  • ADOT has opened the public comment period for the proposed expansion of I-10 from Wild Horse Pass to Casa Grande.
  • The next Government Affairs meeting will be on October 12, 2022. Also in October we will have a morning of update and information from ADEQ, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and from Rep. Debbie Lesko.
