The City of Surprise has announced the next phase of its DevelopNEXT initiative, an effort to modernize the Surprise Unified Development Code.
At the same time the city is consolidating its numerous design books into one comprehensive document, the Planning and Engineering Design Standards book (PEDS).
The Surprise Unified Development Code will regulate housing density, commercial uses, industrial uses, building types, setbacks and heights, connectivity, landscaping, lighting, open space and parking requirements. The PEDS will provide for the aesthetics of the community.
They will align with the Surprise General Plan 2025 and simplify the organization of documents so residents, businesses and city staff will be able to find the rules, read the rules and comply with the rules easier.
