February 1, 2018 Peoria Planning & Zoning Commission will consider adoption of the latest Proposed Draft Sign Ordinance. The meeting begins at 6:30pm. You may read the agenda online.
WeMAR is supportive of the Proposed Sign Ordinance. There are many positive changes, among them:
- Property owners and their agents will be able to post temporary directional signage to open houses at each location a turn is required inside the neighborhood. In addition, they will have access to the public right-of-way to post temporary directional signs within 1 mile of the neighborhood.
- Property owners with no access or right to post signage in a land area, will have the ability to post a standard sized real estate sign in window of the unit.
- Business owners will be able to post window signs covering up to 25% of the total window area on each side of their building.
Many other specific changes are contained in the Proposed Sign Ordinance that are favorable to property owners, business owners, real estate agents and their clients. WeMAR has worked closely with the City of Peoria and appreciates their quick responses to our concerns.
If you live or work in Peoria, please consider sending an email voicing your support for the Proposed Sign Ordinance and appreciation for the many positive changes.
Looking forward: The City intends to hold a review of the Sign Ordinance one year after implementation. If you live or do business in Peoria, let WeMAR know your thoughts as the year progresses.
2/2/18 Update: Peoria Planning & Zoning Commission did recommend the Proposed Draft Sign Ordinance be approved by City Council. Look for this to be on a City Council agenda soon.
