In November 2022, the Douglas area in Cochise County voted to convert the Douglas INA to the Douglas AMA.
With that comes a process for existing holders of water rights to secure those water rights (grandfathered water rights) into the future and the creation of the Douglas AMA and its stated goal. Each AMA has its own goal that will be part of an 100-year Assured Water Supply designation.
ADWR (Az Department of Water Resources) is holding a public hearing to discuss the proposed management goal for the Douglas AMA. The goal as proposed is:
The management goal of the Douglas AMA is to support the general economy and welfare of water users in the basin by attempting to reduce the rate of aquifer depletion by 2035 and every 10 years thereafter.
The public hearing is scheduled for June 28, 2023 at 4pm. You may attend virtually or in person.
You may submit your comments in writing or orally at the hearing. To submit comments via email, mail, fax or hand delivery, contact Sharon Scantlebury, ADWR Docket Supervisor.
