Flags In Day – Arlington National Cemetery

Flags in Arlington National Cemetery

Flags In Day is today, the Thursday before Memorial Day.

Today, the Old Guard (3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment) will place flags at the headstone of each soldier buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

The Old Guard is the Nation’s oldest active duty infantry unit in the U.S. having served since 1784. The Old Guard is the Army’s official ceremonial unit. They guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, they escort the President, conduct military ceremonies and provide military funeral escorts at Arlington National Ceremony.

Senator Tom Cotton just released his new book Sacred Honor: A Soldier’s Tour of Arlington National Cemetery. If you have heard Senator Cotton speak about being a member of the Old Guard and the duties they perform to honor those who have passed, you will realize we have much to be proud of in this Country because of our military men and women.

Tom Cotton was interviewed by C-Span on May 21, 2019. Watch the video as Senator Cotton describes Arlington and the full spectrum of honoring our fallen heroes. Because this is C-Span, some of the callers discuss public policy, but keep watching as the host brings the conversation back to Sacred Honor.

In Arizona, the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona will have a Memorial Day Ceremony on May 27th at 8am and the Prescott National Cemetery will have a Ceremony at 11am.
