Earlier this week it was announced that Mayor Lord passed away. I last spoke with Mayor Lord in August. She had been our guest a few of years ago for Coffee with the Mayor and last year agreed to be interviewed for our podcast.
It is interesting to remember the Coffee with the Mayor visit. Mayor Lord had a clear vision of Goodyear and its future. She spoke of the new City Hall and her vision of Goodyear in 50 years. We now see Goodyear’s new City Hall rising out of the ground quicker than some expected. Mayor Lord understood WeSERV and enjoyed speaking with our members having been a REALTOR® herself at one time.
Mayor Lord was a kind and gracious woman who spoke gently, but with great power. A lost art to be sure. I know her fellow Mayors enjoyed her company and sought her views on issues affecting West Valley and the cities. Her voice and quiet elegance will be missed.
For the City of Goodyear, Vice Mayor Hampton is now acting Mayor until the full Council appoints a Council member to fill Mayor Lord’s remaining term to December 2022. Once the Councilmember is selected to act as Mayor, then residents will be able to submit an application to fill the remaining term of the Council member selected for Mayor.
The next election for Mayor will be in 2022 to elect a mayor with a term beginning in 2023.

RIP Mayor Lord – You will be missed
