Since March 2020, rental eviction moratoriums have come about through agency rules, Governor Executive Orders, Congressional legislation and now – the CDC. Details and timelines change and increasingly tenants, property owners and property managers are confused about what can and cannot be done, and how to do it.
On September 8th I posted a podcast interview with Judge Wismer concerning the Arizona Governor’s Executive Order in July and the CDC rules. It is an attempt to educate property owners and tenants on the processes and procedures for eviction under current rules.
On the same day NAR announced it placed this ad in Politico for 10 days targeting Capitol Hill.
Jack Greacen from NAR also provided a list of actions NAR has taken on the Rental Evictions issue since March 2020. You can read the list, letters to Congress, statements and see coalition letters at narfocus.com. Jack visited us in 2019 to discuss NAR advocacy. You can see the video of his visit at www.weservgad.org.
In Arizona, the Arizona REALTORS® have been advocating on behalf of members, property owners, and tenants. since early Spring as well. Beginning with advocating to ensure the real estate industry was declared as an essential business. Matthew Contorelli has been in several long meetings with the Governor’s office, State Legislators, and other aligned real estate industry associations, advocating for property owner rights and rental assistance for tenants in the form of direct payment to the property owner. Matthew posted an article in the VOICE describing Arizona REALTORS® positions and suggestions in July.
Here at WeSERV, we have been working to edify Chambers of Commerce, members, cities and other organizations about the ramifications of the various Rental Eviction Moratoria. After all, when all is said and done, it is the local municipality, county or town who will be left to deal in real terms with the results of the various policies. You can read WeSERV GAD blogs and listen to podcasts at www.weservgad.org. Two of the most recent podcast and blog posts regard the Rental Property Owner Preservation Fund and the process to adjudicate evictions under current CDC rules and the Governor’s Executive Order.
As a REALTOR® member, you and your clients have advocates at the federal, state and local level who understand the property rights of the owner, property rights of the tenant and the right to private contract are equally important and must be advocated for consistently.
If you would like to communicate with Jack Greacen at NAR, please let me know and I will connect you.
