Washington, D.C. – Day Two with the City of Glendale and the Glendale Chamber of Commerce

March 14th was my second day in Washington, D.C. as part of the City of Glendale and Glendale Chamber of Commerce visit to legislators.

We started the morning of early with a visit and tour of the ASU building.

Next, we visited Senator McSally. Since the Senator had mentioned Opportunity Zones the day before at a meeting of all Arizona cities, I thought I would update her on them as we experience them today.

The lack of rules issued for the Entrepreneur part of the Opportunity Zones is concerning. This was the centerpiece of the legislation, and yet we still have no rules.

Next, we visited with Congressman Paul Gosar, an interesting man with lots of creative ideas worth talking about.

We lunched with Representative Lesko. Representative Lesko is always upbeat and asks questions.

Representative Stanton was able to leave his office and meet us in the hall as we progressed on our visit.

Our next visit was with Congressman Andy Biggs and our last visit of the day was with Representative Gallego. We met him in the Capitol Rotunda.

We had a very busy second day, with little time to really appreciate the places we saw or have in depth conversations with our legislators, but the task was accomplished. To let our elected officials know our support for Luke Air Force Base and its mission, the city’s use of Community Block Grants for low income individuals in the community, and the need for infrastructure in our state and communities. Without roads, rail, air, electricity, water, and other infrastructure, economic development cannot continue.

The real question is “who pays for it?” Representative Schweikert @RepDavid has been making half hour floor speeches in the House of Representatives for several weeks now. Each half hour goes into detail as he explains his 5 pillars for turning around costs while availing ourselves of innovative technology in all the areas of concern to citizens.

It is worth your time to watch and think about his proposals, the questions he asks and the answers he proposes. Below are four of his floor speeches:

Feb. 6, 2019 – Healthcare Technology

Feb. 27, 2019 – Employment Incentives

March 6, 2019 – How Do We Maximize Economic Development to Keep Our Promises? The 5 Pillars

March 13, 2019 – Healthcare and Climate Technology
